What I'm Reading

2/28/2018

February hasn't seen me reading much... What can I say? I have been busy every night plugging away at a new book series and learning a few of the finer points of marketing. Still, I have taken a few hours to read.

The Yada Yada Prayer Group

I was killing time in the library of the church my toddler attends toddler school at for 2.5 hours twice a week. This book caught my eye. I picked this up for the cover (which had bright socks on it -- something about bright socks drew me in).

So, normally, I'm not a big reader of Christian fiction. This book has been a fun read though. I'm approaching the half way point -- nope, not the fastest reader these days -- and looking forward to seeing how it ends. Guess I'll report back on that next month though...

Twilight

This is not my first time reading Twilight, probably my fourth or fifth time. Yes, I still enjoy it. This time through I do see myself reading it with more attention to details, descriptions, and flow. Things I never noticed are popping out at me. Like, did you know chapter 1 is around 6,000 words? The full book has to be over 120,000 words -- read a LONG book.
As much as I enjoy Twilight, the same story told by Edward Cullen is better. His point of view brings more to the story. Granted, I read Edward's version long after reading Bella's tale. I wish Stephanie would publish it. I've been willing to give away my Twilight series of books, but NOT Twilight.

February does seem to be holding the designation of "No Book Finished." I was out of town for a week and, between that and the slightly fewer days in the month, I simply didn't finish reading a single book. But I enjoyed the two above and those listed below.

Project Enterprise: The Short Stories

Ok, I'm not even sure I've made it through Chapter 1 of book 1because the POV switches are coming a bit fast, but I am enjoying the story. I really want to find out what happened to "Jilly" that she's a Garridain hiding in plain sight (or at least that's where I think the story is headed). Like I said, not very far in.

The link for this one is direct to the author, Pauline Baird Jones's page. She has it up as a Free download. If you think you might like a Sci-Fi romance, try out Project Enterprise: The Short Stories.

Memory's Child

This book is one that I am very much on the fence about. A teenage girl in a post-apocalyptic world being hunted by those she believes to be completely inferior to her. I am not even a quarter of the way through it and I remain unsure if I will get more than half-way. The subject matter just is not to my usual tastes

Truthfully, it's just too soon for me to decide if I'm going to like, love, or hate the book -- which means the story and plot are good enough to not be a complete turn off within the first chapter. It's just really hard to figure out.

I'm going to break here with the reading to talk about a movie we watched -- we being my husband and I but we let the kids come and go as they pleased, so they kind of saw it too...

Moms Night Out

Released in 2014, it's obviously taken me awhile to see it. Technically, I borrowed it from our local library. Here's the premise:

3 hard working moms take a night off while their husbands watch the kids.

Simple enough, right? Well, it was crazy fun. We roared with laughter. One of our laughs was not supplied by the movie itself, but rather from our 6-year old remarking, "I don't want to watch this movie anymore. It's so sad." Why did kid-1 say that? Because kid-1 is extremely empathetic and felt that the mom had too hard a life. I, personally, loved the scene when she framed her daughter's art on the wall. Literally, on the wall.

I doubt I'm doing the movie justice. It was simply good, clean fun. If there was language, and I don't think that there was, it was minimal. No sex or nudity. It was clean and still hilarious. Highly recommend watching with your husband as the men have pretty big roles. Marco getting pulled over by the cops! And, honestly, the things kids say -- yep, those little things make the movie great

That's it for February. i know, slim pickings with a host of only partially read books. Such is my life. Definitely see the movie, if nothing else catches your fancy. It was really quite fun.
