What I'm Reading To My Kids

4/4/2018

March -- what a fun month. Weird weather, trips, an illness or three. Yep, lots of fun in our household. But, fear not, we did get some reading done. This month my kindergartener has really begun to read and I'm listing out the books that have been best.

As always these are Amazon affiliate links. Please remember to check your local library before purchasing as they might have these books available to borrow at no charge.

Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business

Junie B. is in kindergarten and about to become a big sister. Man, this kid is a piece of work -- I understand why the parents waited so long between kids!

Actually, my kids do enjoy Junie B. and they also understand that they would get in trouble for acting the way she does. I think their favorite parts ARE when she gets in trouble.

This story did prompt my eldest to ask for the story of when she became a big sister. We even looked at photos.

Big Shark Little Shark

One of the first books my eldest read without issue. Figures it would be about sharks -- apple doesn't fall far from the tree there (her mother and aunt are shark book nuts).

Two hungry sharks don't catch their snacks. Big Shark is eyeing Little Shark. Things look grim. Then Little Shark pulls out his net and both sharks can feast.

Note that the pictures are silly and fun. No actual eating is shown -- though I would hope your kid understands that sharks eat fish

Doc McStuffins Look and Find

My youngest asks to have this book "read" to her every day -- often more than once. It takes us at least 20 minutes to get through it since I routinely ask her to find extra items or count things.

These are fun books for little kids -- toddlers. Speaking of which...

Frozen My First Look and Find

This one is available at my youngest's toddler school. Yes, I send my youngest to a twice a week toddler program. It's 2.5 hours times 2 of sanity. Eldest did the same program as a toddler also.

Every drop-off, there's about 10 minutes of parents reading to their kids. This is my youngest's go-to book. Her favorite. There are 2 of them and my kid will wait for one to be available.

So, for little ones, Look and Find books are a pretty big deal. (Just control the "finding" when your elder child joins you or there will be fights.)
