#GRIMMread2019 Challenge

Ever read all of the Grimm Brothers fairytales?

No? (Gasp!)

Me neither. In fact, I'm pretty certain I'm more versed in the Disney-ified versions. That changes this year.

I'm joining the #GRIMMread2019 Challenge setup by Shonna Slayton.

Shonna, like Evie Briar, is a Young Adult author of re-imagined fairytales. Shonna's are historical. I'm trying out Shonna's book, Snow White's Mirror. It's set in New Mexico right before the copper rush started. Think constraining Victorian costumes better suited to the streets on New York City than hammering in a mine or panning for gold.

The #GRIMMread2019 Challenge is 4 fairytales a week. Given what I've already read in several of them, I might not be reading them all to my kids. Maybe, maybe not. I really wonder sometimes about the stuff we read to little, impressionable girls (then and now).
How am I participating? Mostly just by reading and reporting back here each week. It'll be a lot like my earlier, monthly What We Read posts (that I totally fell off of writing when school started).

But doesn't that girl all comfy under a toadstool just make you want to read? Go ahead. Go find that old copy of Grimm's Fairytales hidden in the corner of your bookshelf. Join me. Let's read some fairytales together.

Week 1 Reading List:
  • The Frog King (or Iron Heinrich or Iron Henry)
  • Cat and Mouse in Partnership
  • Mary's Child
  • The Story of the Youth Who Went Forth to Learn What Fear Was

In case you don't have a copy handy, you can always download one from Project Gutenburg. This link will take you to Project Gutenburg's download page for Grimm's Fairytales. You're welcome.

Come back every week (probably on a Monday) to see how well I'm going (or utterly failing) at this challenge.

Here are links to other people -- ones who like to blog about fairytales and reading -- who are accepting the #GRIMMread2019 Challenge.

So glad I'm not doing this alone! Thanks for joining the challenge :)
