Up-cycle Toddler Clothes to AG Doll Outfits

I recently discovered a box of my eldest's old toddler clothing. My youngest has already outgrown them. Oops. I decided there were 2 options:
Donate or Upcycle
Most items were donated. A few had patterns small enough to look good on an 18 inch doll. Those items got cut up and sewn into new outfits for my daughters’ dolls.

I, once again, used the patterns I traced out of this book as the basis for the doll clothes.

My biggest tips:
1. Cut the sleeves out on the shirt side. Remove the shoulder seam with a seam ripper. Completely open the sleeve by cutting along the seam and lay flat. This leaves the largest area to cut doll sleeves from.
2. If possible, use the existing hem on pants for doll leggings. It’s faster and cleaner looking.

American Doll Jersey Knit Pants Printable

My girls love their new faux American Girl dolls. They’re really My Life dolls from Walmart. I’d never let my kids play with, and destroy, a real American Girl doll because of the price point. My frugal bones object way too much. My husband’s object even more (and he’s a total pushover).
Dolls need clothes. Sometimes a simple pattern can go a long way.
When we got the dolls I already owned this pattern book. (Amazon Affiliate link for the book)

I hate seams. The fewer I need to make, the better. So I modified the pants pattern in the book to require less seams.
That minor change made it fit on a single 8.5x11 piece of paper. Score! Here is that pattern for you to  enjoy. Click the pattern image below to download and print.

[Note: you must know how to sew on knits because this is not a full pattern with directions. It’s a simple printable only.]
If you make a pair, post a picture in the comments below. Thanks.

When we got the dolls I had spent several months making the girls circle skirts. Their new dolls had to have circle skirts of their own.
Circle skirts are pretty easy — IF you use Jersey knit fabrics. You cut out 1 piece of fabric for the skirt and seam the back closed. Then you attach it to a knit waist band (which is easier than elastic for me for some reason).
The pattern for a circle skirt fits on a single 8.5x11 piece of paper. Score! Click the image to download and print the pattern for yourself.

If you make a circle skirt for your kid’s AG doll (or other 18” doll), post a picture in the comments below. Thanks.
