This year I'm streamlining my life. Why? I want more time to write. I want time to play with my kiddos. And I want to be less stressed overall. First order of attack: the family dinner menu!
I read about kinda meal plan that basically involved writing down the meals you frequently eat. So I sat down and wrote out all of the meals I already know how to make to see how many days I could cover.
Yes, that's my rushed list of 23 possible meals that I know I can make. It was seriously sweet and cathartic to look at that hot mess.
With list in hand, I shuffled about my kitchen checking for ingredients. What I lacked fleshed out a new shopping list.
That's all it took. One focused hour!
Now I still need to shop and prep, but that's another time. Knowing the options for dinner for a whole month is freeing on a primal level.
Since this my first attempt at this new meal planning method, I'll post back in February (or March) with an update.

Recently my OB/GYN told me that I'm doing too much, stressing myself out, and basically creating postpartum issues in the process. His recommendation went something like this:
1. Change what you're doing to get more sleep and stress less
2. Stop nursing the baby and get estrogen supplements.
We decided on option 1. It's not without its challenges though. Things like my husband takes morning duty starting with the post 5 am nursing. My knitting business will remain in hobby mode. Writing?
I struggled with putting much desired goals on the back burner. I spent weeks reading to find a way around being only mom.
If you're just a mom (or a dad), don't feel less of anything because being a parent is a full time job. I absolutely need another outlet or my personality takes a turn toward Negative Town. It's an unpleasant place for me to visit but it's awful when I drag the kids and hubby there with me.
But, per doctor's orders, I must change how I do things. So this year will be a series of steps to streamline and focus on my real priorities. The process has begun. I'll blog about it periodically. Not daily. Maybe a post a week--which would be an increase from before while still being manageable. I already know the first steps: downsizing, meal optioning, and focus.
What are your plans for the new year? Any doctors given you a kick in the pants to change your life?
