Abstract Rainbow Wall

I started in January...

My eldest asked for a rainbow on her wall. I said, "Sure, sweetie. I can do that." Then began the Pinterest searches for inspiration. The more I saw, the less I wanted a standard rainbow arching across a wall.

This is despite the fact that that is probably exactly what my 4-year old wanted when she asked. Though I'm not completely sure because at one point she did request that her ENTIRE room be a rainbow.

By April I was only into the oranges!

Finally I came up with an abstract design of circles that I liked. Let's just be real and say that I was the only person who could "SEE" this design. But the kiddo agreed to it anyway. She's got faith in her mother's artist abilities.

This idea turned out to be a time consuming one. I worked in fits of starts and stops. It was wonderful to see progress while at the same time frustrating to realize how much more needed to be done.

Something about getting to orange spurred me on...

And, luckily, the reds and pinks went on a lot faster. By faster I mean there were fewer coats needed to make the circles opaque. I also decided to scale back the design a bit.

When I put the red row up, my daughter got home from school and squealed. She was so excited that we were nearly to pink. She even dragged her father into her room to admire my work.

Then she ordered me to "get [her] some purple. It has to have purple, Mommy."
So now its May and I've added the requested purple and finished this side of the room (minus the touch-ups--like covering over the pink circles in the upper left). It looks great and I'm very pleased with how it turned out.

Thank you, Patti! It runs in the family. My mom painted our rooms. She waited until we were old enough to actually help. ;-)
